Cómo declarar criptomonedas en España
In Spain, cryptocurrencies are taxable even if you never convert them to euros: simply selling, swapping, or spending your crypto assets generates a capital gain or loss that the Tax Agency expects to see in your tax return.

What operations must be declared in Spain
Taxable events include selling cryptocurrencies for euros, crypto-to-crypto swaps, payments with crypto for goods or services, staking rewards, airdrops, and interest earned on lending platforms. Buying and holding does not generate any tax until you sell or swap.
The calculation is done using the FIFO method: the first units acquired are considered the first ones sold. You must keep a complete transaction history for each exchange, because the Tax Agency receives information from platforms operating in Spain and cross-references data automatically.
Informative Forms: 721 and 714
If your balances in exchanges or custodians located outside Spain exceed 50,000 € as of December 31st, you must submit Form 721 between January and March. This is a purely informative form, but failure to submit it carries its own penalties that can exceed 1,500 €.
Form 714 (Wealth Tax) affects those who exceed the tax-free minimum of their autonomous community, typically 700,000 € of net wealth. Cryptocurrencies are valued at market price as of December 31st.
Before filing: have your history in order
The first step to a proper tax declaration is to download the complete transaction history from each platform you use. MiCA-licensed exchanges often provide ready-to-use annual reports, which significantly simplifies the filing process.
