The 35,000 BRL monthly exemption
If the total of your crypto asset sales in the month does not exceed 35,000 BRL, the profit is exempt. The limit applies to the set of transactions and per month, not per transaction.
Above this amount, profit is taxed according to the progressive capital gains scale: 15% up to 5 million reals and up to 22.5% in higher brackets.
Assets on foreign exchanges
Income from foreign financial assets, including cryptocurrencies held on foreign platforms, is taxed at a specific rate of 17.5% in the annual declaration, without the monthly exemption.
Furthermore, normative instruction 1.888 requires reporting transactions carried out on foreign exchanges or between individuals when they exceed 30,000 BRL monthly.
Before filing: have your history in order
The first step to a proper tax declaration is to download the complete transaction history from each platform you use. MiCA-licensed exchanges often provide ready-to-use annual reports, which significantly simplifies the filing process.
